Church Army is an Anglican society made up of lay and ordained men and women who are called by God to do the work of Evangelism, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed. Wilson Carlisle, our founder, had a reputation for reaching out to people that the church of his day was not reaching. He took the good news of Jesus to the darkest places in London. Church Army Australia began in 1934, and in 2009 we celebrated 75 years of evangelism in Australia. One of our main goals today is to plant new mission communities, and make disciples of Jesus in places where there is great social need and no effective Christian witness or church. Gap Year is one part of our training strategy to raise up laborers for the harvest field. Church Army Australia

The first 4 weeks are spent here at an old homestead "Kihilla" at Lawson in the Blue Mountains, living and studying.

The Kihilla community is made up of part time staff, families living on site, Gap students School of Local mission students and other short-term visitors. Restoration residents who live in other buildings in the grounds also join in with aspects of the community such as meals, church and maintenance.

Three core units and two elective units are studied during the first 4 weeks, also some involvement in the local mission base, personal study, days off and maintenance/gardening, fill the rest of the time. During the first few weeks we prayerfully decide with students where you will serve on placement and then you will serve on a Church Army Local Mission base from April, staying about 2 months at a time, returning to Kihilla in May, July and September to study other units of the course, with School of Local Mission students (see actual dates on page 8).

The final week is spent debriefing the year and a final training unit with mentoring which helps maximise the impact and learning of your Gap experience and what it means for your future. A graduation dinner and taster weekend for prospective students for the next year, complete the course.
